How to Install Scrnsnap on Windows

Scrnsnap is designed to be lightweight and fast. Follow this guide to get it running on your Windows machine in under two minutes.

Prerequisites

Before we begin, ensure your system meets these requirements:

  • OS: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
  • Storage: 50MB of free space
  • Permissions: Administrative rights (for the installer)

Step 1: Download the Installer

Head over to our official downloads page and click on the Download for Windows button. This will download the Scrnsnap.msi file.

Always ensure you are downloading Scrnsnap from our official domain to stay safe from modified versions.

Step 2: Run the Setup

Locate the downloaded .msi file in your Downloads folder and double-click it.

If you see a "Windows protected your PC" popup:

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.

Step 3: Configuration

During installation, you will be asked if you want to "Launch on Startup."

We recommend enabling this so your screenshot shortcuts (like Alt + 5) work the moment you turn on your computer.

Step 4: Verify Installation

Once the installer finishes, you should see the Scrnsnap icon in your System Tray (the small icons near your clock).

Default Shortcuts:

  • Alt + S: Capture Area

Troubleshooting

If the application fails to launch, try installing the latest .NET Desktop Runtime, as Scrnsnap relies on it for Windows performance.
