How to Install Scrnsnap on Mac

Scrnsnap makes capturing and sharing screenshots on your Mac effortless. Follow this guide to get Scrnsnap running in just a few minutes.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • macOS: 12.0 Monterey or later (Intel or Apple Silicon)
  • Storage: 50MB of free space
  • Permissions: Admin rights to install applications

Step 1: Download the Installer

Go to the official Scrnsnap downloads page and click Download for Mac. This will download the Scrnsnap.dmg file.

Always download Scrnsnap from the official website to avoid unsafe or modified versions.

Step 2: Install the App

  1. Open the downloaded Scrnsnap.dmg file.
  2. Drag the Scrnsnap icon into your Applications folder.
  3. Eject the Scrnsnap disk image after installation.

Step 3: Grant Permissions

On first launch, Scrnsnap will request permissions to:

  • Screen Recording (for capturing screenshots)
  • Accessibility (for global shortcuts)

Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and grant these permissions for Scrnsnap.

Step 4: Launch and Configure

Open Scrnsnap from your Applications folder. You’ll see the Scrnsnap icon in your menu bar.

Default Shortcuts:

  • Cmd + S: Capture Area

Troubleshooting

If Scrnsnap doesn’t appear in your menu bar or fails to capture, double-check that you’ve granted all required permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
